The Plateau State Government has announced the successful rescue of 25 children who were abducted in Wase Local Government Area by criminals posing as local vigilantes.
The children were kidnapped on December 21, 2025, along the Zak–Sabon Layi Road at about 7:00 p.m. while on their way to attend a Maulud celebration. During the attack, three of the victims reportedly managed to escape.I’mAccording to Jatau, all 25 children were rescued in good condition. Of the number, 19 are boys while six are girls.
He noted that medical examinations showed they were generally healthy, aside from minor injuries such as sores on their feet. The state government has ordered trauma assessments for the rescued children and pledged to provide financial support to help with their recovery and reintegration.
Jatau also praised the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies for their commitment to improving safety across Plateau State. The children have since been handed over to officials of Wase Local Government Area for reunification with their families, while security forces continue operations to dismantle criminal groups operating in the area.
