Plateau: Pregnant woman, nursing mother, 3-year-old among victims of bandit’s attack in Bassa

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias reportedly carried out a deadly midnight attack on Ngbrran-Zongo village in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Friday, killing 11 people, including a seven-month-old pregnant woman, a nursing mother, and a three-year-old child.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM), Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Saturday, stating that several others, including pregnant women, children, and elderly residents, sustained injuries during the assault.

According to Yonkpa, the attackers stormed the community around midnight on Friday, April 8, 2026, unleashing violence on residents of the Irigwe community. He described the incident as an unprovoked and brutal attack that claimed the lives of men, women, and children.

Among those killed were community leader Sunday Hwie, 60; Rikwe Danjuma, 37; Paul Musa, 35; Gabriel Sunday, 17; Eunice Samuel, 25, who was seven months pregnant; Laraba Sunday, 29, a nursing mother; Festus Sunday, 3; Sibi Friday, 23; Alheri Monday, 19; Friday Monday, 26; and Deh Sunday.

The injured victims were identified as Esi Sarki, 23; Yakubu John, 9; Ladi Sarki, 18, who is pregnant; Ladi Bitrus, 19; Amanda Sunday, 10; Danlami Gideon, 12; Baba Clement, 30; Jezriel Sunday, 8; Mary David, 4; and Monday Francis, 28.

Yonkpa said many of the injured victims were unable to escape the attackers due to their age or condition, adding that women, children, and the elderly were particularly affected in the assault.
