Salary Delay Sparks Outrage as Majority of Federal Workers Yet to Receive June Pay

by Stallone

As of June 30, 2026, many federal government workers across Nigeria are yet to receive their June salaries, triggering widespread concern and renewed criticism over delays in workers’ welfare.

The development has sparked frustration among civil servants, many of whom say the delay has compounded the economic hardship they are already facing amid rising inflation and the increasing cost of living.

Beyond the delayed salaries, workers also expressed disappointment over the continued non-implementation of peculiar allowances that were approved by the Federal Government several months ago. They argued that despite repeated assurances from relevant authorities, the approved allowances have yet to be reflected in their earnings.

Speaking on the development, several workers described the situation as unacceptable, noting that salaries are the primary source of livelihood for most public servants and should not be subjected to persistent delays.

They called on the Federal Government, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and other relevant agencies to urgently release the outstanding June salaries and commence the implementation of the approved peculiar allowances without further delay.

The workers maintained that fulfilling these commitments would boost morale, improve productivity, and demonstrate the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.

They also urged the authorities to provide a clear explanation for the delay and communicate a definite timeline for the payment of salaries and implementation of the outstanding allowances.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the relevant government authorities explaining the reason for the delay.

Federal workers across the country remain hopeful that the outstanding salaries will be paid promptly and that the long-awaited implementation of the approved peculiar allowances will finally commence.
