The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has ordered an immediate stop to the operations of a group calling itself HISBA in parts of Jos North Local Government Area, declaring its activities illegal and unauthorized.
This directive comes following reports that the group has been harassing, intimidating, and extorting residents while enforcing unauthorized rules. Governor Mutfwang warned those involved to cease these activities immediately or face arrest and prosecution under Nigerian law.
Emphasizing that Plateau State is governed by a single constitution, legal system, and recognized government, the Governor declared that no private entity or self-appointed group will be allowed to establish a parallel authority or impose restrictions on citizens. He reiterated that law enforcement remains solely the responsibility of legally constituted state authorities.
Security agencies have been instructed to investigate, track down, and prosecute all individuals, sponsors, and accomplices involved, while enhancing intelligence efforts to protect residents from extortion and coercion.
Governor Mutfwang clarified that this enforcement action is strictly a matter of maintaining law and order, rather than targeting any specific religious or ethnic group. He reassured citizens of all backgrounds that they are entitled to equal protection and have the right to live, work, and worship without unlawful interference.
Finally, the Governor thanked the members of the public who reported the group’s actions, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, preserving peace, and safeguarding the rights and dignity of all Plateau State residents
